Congregation B'Nai Torah
Congregation B'Nai Torah was founded in 1997 by five families: Mr. and Mrs. Ira Freedman, Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Freedman, Mr. Doug Golden, Dr. Charles Stein, Mr. and Mrs. George Selis. Soon after Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moskowitz and their Chaverot group joined and they brought the synagogue's first Torah. These families wanted to establish a Conservative temple in Ormond Beach based on the principles of "no pay to pray" and the inclusion of all family members as congregants. The first President was Stuart Amols. The congregation began at the Ormond Beach Senior Center and the first High Holiday services were at The Trails Club House. As CBT grew, there was a need for a larger meeting area. They soon met in a storefront in a plaza off of Nova Road. After being there for five years, CBT had to move again due to its growing congregation. The synagogue is now located on N. Nova Road and has over 100 families. Rabbi S. David Kane, the original Rabbi, continues to lead the congregation.
