Mount Sinai Cemetery
The Mt. Sinai Cemetery was founded in 1937 by Harry Pepper and Mack Roth. These two men created the Mount Sinai Cemetery Association: President, Harry Pepper; Vice President, Mack Roth; Secretary, Sam Doliner and Treasurer, Irving Sacks. The new Jewish cemetery was able to form when Harry Haig, owner of the funeral parlor talked to Mack Roth about needing a Jewish cemetery. Harry Haig of Haig-Black Funeral Home, also helped form the cemetery. Mr. Letter, the owner of the established cemetery helped form Mt. Sinai Cemetery by selling some of his property to Mt. Sinai. Additionally, ten men put in money to buy more acreage and they received ten plots each. Mt. Sinai Cemetery holds the majority of the deceased Jews in town. The Mount Sinai Cemetery Association still exists with Robert Tabasky as President, Louis Ossinsky as Vice President, Steve Unatin as Secretary, Celeste Doliner as Treasurer and Ira Freedman on the board of directors.
